  Wheels for Wildlife 2008
Families or Fanatics - Help us raise money to save wildlife

Sunday 15 June 2008

Want to get fit, raise money for charity and see some of Lancashire’s breathtaking scenery - then why not join in the Wheels for Wildlife Challenge 2008? Rapidly becoming a ‘must do’ event for many cyclists why not come and join the Wildlife Trust events on Sunday 15th June 2008.

There are three routes to cater for all ages and abilities; for families – a pleasant ride out for a picnic or café stop, remember this is Father’s day, for fitness – a testing ride over Bleasdale fell, for fanatics – a lung buster over the Trough of Bowland. Cycling is a great form of transport, a fantastic way to appreciate the countryside and a fun way to get fit and stay healthy. Why not give it a go?

Cycle through beautiful woodlands dating back hundreds of years, look out for rabbits and hares and listen for the call of ascending skylarks or the evocative sound of curlews and oystercatchers. Enjoy the glistening streams of the Bowland Fells, and the purple heather of the moorland.

You may start when ready, alone or in a group; times are staggered to ensure the safety and comfort of all our riders. Why not take a break along the way and tuck into homemade cakes and a pot of tea at one of the cafes en-route. Don’t forget to stop and admire the view, this isn’t about speed so much as enjoyment.

We ask that you help us protect our wildlife by raising sponsorship in support of our projects. These valuable funds will help us to save our red squirrels at Formby, develop our nature reserve at Brockholes and protect our marine environment in Morecambe Bay. Sponsor forms and supporting information available on entry.

So take the Wheels for Wildlife challenge and see how much you can raise for the Lancashire Wildlife Trust! Individuals, families and corporate teams are invited to take up the challenge.

Wildlife Trust gets a lift from bicycle company

Lancashire Wildlife Trust has received support from Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative (EBC) in its efforts to promote the Wheels for Wildlife bike ride on June 15th. For the second year, EBC has come up trumps with 120 puncture repair kits, 75 sets of tyre levers and branded carriers.

Clare Kenny, the Trust's Fundraising Manager, said: "Once again EBC has entered into the spirit of this event. We are very grateful and hope that our members will return the favour by popping in to EBC's Manchester shop and letting them know how much we value their involvement."
